Dermot started in San Diego in 1991, building and buying garden apartments. Our founder had been a lawyer, a banker and an Air Force officer. His name was Bill Dickey. He named the company after his dad, Dermot, who had moved to New York City from Ireland and raised his family from modest means. Our business went well, and we built another property, then another after that. We expanded to new cities and bigger projects. By the time we returned to New York, some were getting pretty tall. By 2000, Bill needed more New Yorkers to help. So, he hired us, Steve Benjamin, Drew Spitler and Andrew Levison. After many successful years together, Bill was ready to retire in 2015 and he gave us the opportunity to buy the business.
Today, we are a New York City company that focuses exclusively on luxury rental apartments. We build communities that we would be proud to call home, the coolest buildings in great neighborhoods. We have great communal spaces that bring people together: lounges and pools and cafes and playrooms and gyms and outdoor movie theaters and indoor dog parks. We have fantastic on-site teams who make sure that your home is always safe, clean and fun, and who treat you with trust and respect. After all, renting your home is supposed to be fun!
And that’s how we got here.
